1. URL rewriting

What is URL rewriting?
The URL rewriting is to rewrite a web address to make it more attractive, more readable, shorter... In short, it's made to offer the user a URL that makes sense.

The URL rewriting is always used in the application.
By default, the title of section, then the title of the element accessed are used to rewrite the URL of the page.
However, there is sometimes complex structures that can't be avoided automatically.

So you can decide to write some web addresses yourself.

Example of an article webpage with and without a custom URL Rewriting for an mcms article:  
https://www.yourdomain.com/articles/c/0/i/11372875/my-article-title
https://www.yourdomain.com/my-article-title
 

Why rewrite a URL?
You could need it if you wish to create external links to your app from other supports that your app itself.
For instance, in case you would like to create a link to your app from an external website, in ads etc...

How to rewrite a URL?
Go to the menu Publish > Administration > URL rewriting.
Click the green + button.
 

Click the little pen in the Slug column, then edit it.
 

Next, in the column Link, choose via the drop down menus, the content your url rewritten will point to.

In our example below, at the moment, the url of the article titled "Wearable Devices - Success or Flop?" has the url:
https://www.mydomain.com/articles/c/0/i/11372875/wearable-devicessuccess-or-flop

Once the url rewriting set, it will be possible to access this article via the URL:
https://www.mydomain.com/my-own-slug
 

Important:
- You can set a URL rewriting for any page of your app via the dropdown menus.
- You are limited to 100 URL rewriting for your app.
- There is no automatic redirection, the default URL will still be accessible for search engines and users.
- Do not use accent, space and special characters in your slug.
- Don't forget to Update your app in the menu Publish > Changelog to publish your modifications.

2. Slug

What is a slug?
URL slugs are the end of the URL of a specific page on your web app. It is the location where webpages are accessed when typing their URL in the address bar. To optimize URL slugs, Apollo Apps automatically assigns a URL slug for each new page based on its title as explained above.

Why modifying a slug?
In addition to providing more explicit URLs for your visitors, this technique helps to improve your Search Engine Optimization. Indeed, search engines take into account the content of the web address in their algorithm. With a custom slug, the page address contains keywords that will improve indexing and the visibility of your page in search results.  

How to modify a slug in your app?
Go to the menu Builder > Sections
You can modify the slug of all sections of your app.
Go to the tab "Setting" of your section, then click the little pen to be able to edit the slug of your section URL.

 

You can also modify the default slug of mCMS item pages.
For this go to the menu Builder > Sections > mCMS sections > Item concerned (video, article, event etc..)
In the example below, we'll show how to edit an article's slug.

Once in your section, go to the Content tab, click your item, then finally, click the tab SEO.

1/ If your article is displayed in several sections of your app, choose the section that will be used in the URL of your article.
2/ Edit your Item Slug
3/ See what's your final URL will be:
 

Important: 

  • URL with custom slug set in the Builder menu of your app will become the main URL (canonical URL) visible for search engines and users. 

- Do not use accent, space and special characters in your slug.
- Don't forget to Update your app in the menu Publish > Changelog to publish your modifications.
